The Immense World of Online Universities

AS a Rule 101, online universities have some things in common. They don’t offer laboratory or practical tests and they don’t offer internships. Thus, every theory a student encounters in class must be diligently tried out by the student. This is for the student’s own good so that he or she can ultimately pass the board exam once he has graduated from an online university. So if you’re planning to enroll in an online university, choose one which is an extension of an existing university with a classroom setting. Curricula they offer are the same with that of their traditional counterpart. Thus, the quality of education received by the student can be assured. An online university is advantageous for students who are not affluent and who rely only on student loans to finance their way through college.

There are lots of advantages for online universities. A student here can log in to his or her student account anytime of the day at his or her own pleasure. Students who are enrolled in online universities usually have odd jobs during the day so their times to log in, study and take the online quizzes only occur at night. Since the world of online universities is immensely broad, it doesn’t limit itself to accommodating students who are getting programs leading to a bachelor’s degree. Sometimes, students enroll in a short course to uplift themselves. This is called continuing adult education. Another advantage for online education is that the student does not anymore pay for laboratory and other miscellaneous university fees because there simply are none. And the student does not anymore spend for transportation in going to the college and back to his or her dorm. The student does not also pay for the snacks and dinner that is associated with traditional colleges and universities. And he or she doesn’t pay anymore with the dormitory rent and of course the utilities that you have to use while living there – electricity, water, home phone, cable TV connection, high speed wired and wireless Internet connection, etc.

Nowadays, some public high schools in the United States have created pilot online programs. This is true for the Free State High School in Manhattan-Ogden school district of Kansas. Students can now opt to enroll in their online program there. There are about 240 students enrolled in this pilot program in Kansas. In Colorado, there is an online high school there that has an enrollment of a whooping 4,000 students. As online education is booming across the country, there is now an emerging surge to even private entities offering sole online education. It is in these schools that parents and guardians must be wary. Parents and guardians of would-be enrollees must carefully check on whether high schools are really registered with the school board in their district or even at the state-level Department of Education. It’s so easy to check. All the parents and guardians need to do is email their local school district board and request for a list of accredited online schools in their area.
